Everything you need to write about UK fuel prices: company background, methodology, pre-written quotes, downloadable assets, and ready-to-cite statistics — all sourced from the UK Government Fuel Finder scheme.

Company Background

PetrolPricesNearYou is a free, independent UK fuel price comparison service founded by Keir Woodfield in 2026. The site covers approximately 7,925 fuel stations across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, comparing prices for E10 petrol, E5 super unleaded, B7 diesel, and premium diesel.

The service is built on Next.js with server-side rendering, full structured-data schema markup, and daily-refreshed pricing from the UK Government Fuel Finder scheme — a mandatory initiative that came into full effect on 2 February 2026, requiring all UK fuel retailers to publish their forecourt prices within 30 minutes of any change.

PetrolPricesNearYou is self-funded, free to use, requires no account, and does not sell user data. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the UK Government.

Methodology

All fuel price data is sourced from the UK Government Fuel Finder scheme. Retailers operating 50+ stations are legally required to publish their prices daily via the scheme's API.

We fetch this data via the official API and run a full resync of all 7,925 stations every morning at 6am UTC. We do not estimate, model, or forecast pump prices — every price displayed is the exact value reported by the retailer to the government scheme.

The same data feed is used by the RAC and AA for their published price trackers, and by the Office for National Statistics for CPI fuel components. Our monthly Fuel Price Index aggregates daily price records across all participating stations, filtering anomalies (prices below 90p or above 300p per litre). The monthly average is the arithmetic mean of all daily station prices within the calendar month.

Pre-Written Quotes

These quotes are ready to use in articles. Attribution: “Keir Woodfield, founder of PetrolPricesNearYou”

“The UK Government Fuel Finder scheme has transformed fuel price transparency. For the first time, every driver can see exactly what they'll pay before they reach the forecourt — no estimates, no guesswork, just the prices retailers are legally required to report.”
“We built PetrolPricesNearYou to make this data accessible to everyone, free of charge. You shouldn't need an account or a subscription to find the cheapest petrol near you.”
“The difference between the cheapest and most expensive petrol in the UK can be 20p or more per litre. Over a full tank, that's a significant saving — and over a year of driving, it adds up to hundreds of pounds.”
