Methodology

The UK Fuel Price Index is published monthly by PetrolPricesNearYou. All price data is sourced from the UK Government Fuel Finder scheme, which requires all major fuel retailers operating 50+ stations to publish their prices daily.

We aggregate daily price records from all participating UK stations. Prices outside the 90-300p per litre range are excluded as anomalies. The monthly average is the arithmetic mean of all daily station prices within the calendar month. Month-over-month changes compare the current month's average to the previous month's average for the same fuel type.

Regional and city breakdowns use postcode area prefixes to assign stations to regions. Only cities with 5+ station records are included in the city rankings. Brand comparisons include brands with 10+ station records.
