Where Our Data Comes From

All fuel prices on PetrolPricesNearYou come directly from the UK Government Fuel Finder scheme, a mandatory government-backed initiative that came into full effect on 2 February 2026.

Under the scheme, all UK fuel retailers are legally required to publish their forecourt prices within 30 minutes of any price change. This covers petrol (E10 and E5), diesel (B7), and premium variants across over 7,900 stations nationwide.

We do not estimate, model, or manually adjust any price figures. Every price you see is the exact value reported by the retailer to the government scheme.

We run a full sync of all 7,925 stations every morning at 6am UTC, pulling the latest prices directly from the scheme's API to catch any overnight corrections or station additions.

Accuracy & Coverage

The Government Fuel Finder scheme is the same primary source used by the RAC and AA for their published price trackers, and by the Office for National Statistics for CPI fuel components. It is the most authoritative public source of UK forecourt prices available.

Coverage spans all four nations:

  • England
  • Scotland
  • Wales
  • Northern Ireland

Each price record includes a timestamp of when the retailer last updated it, which we display on every search result so you can judge freshness for yourself.

What We Don't Show

We aim to be transparent about the limits of our data:

  • Independent stations may lag up to 30 minutes — some smaller independent forecourts update their prices less frequently than supermarkets. Under the scheme rules they have up to 30 minutes; a price shown may reflect the position at the last update rather than the live pump price.
  • LPG (autogas) is not currently covered — the Government Fuel Finder scheme does not mandate LPG price reporting, so we have no data for it.
  • AdBlue is not covered — AdBlue pricing is outside the scope of the scheme and is not included.

Methodology

Our data comes from the UK Government's Fuel Finder scheme, which requires retailers to report price changes within 30 minutes. We currently refresh our published figures daily; each figure is accurate as of the date shown.
